THINKING AHEAD

Stephen Whelan, technical director at Carlisle-based Integrity IT Solutions, on why resolving IT issues will protect your business now and in the future.

Being unable to log on to an important Teams meeting or send an urgent email is frustrating to say the least. Multiply that feeling by dozens of team members working across the same business or organisation and it isn’t long before a company will take a productivity hit – as well as having to deal with some extremely unhappy employees.

Having the right IT system and solutions in place is essential to ensuring that your business can operate efficiently and effectively.

As with most things, prevention is better than cure and a complete review of your business’ IT system will help resolve everything from those annoying glitches and common frustrations to potentially catastrophic cyber security threats.

The way we work has changed dramatically over the past decade which has led to ever increasing demands on IT infrastructure. If a business has expanded rapidly over a short period of time or moved to remote working options, then its existing IT system may no longer be fit for purpose.

Every business is different, so it’s about considering what you need from your IT system and making it work for you. It could be as simple as providing more training for your team in order to maximise your current software package, or putting in place measures to make sure that data is stored safely, securely and backed up daily.

If your IT system isn’t up to scratch, then you could be vulnerable to cyber attacks and threats which could potentially inflict lasting damage on your business.

Your IT provider will be able to work with you on a plan to tackle the most pressing problems, and follow up with regular maintenance and checks to deal with any future issues before they arise.

They will also advise you on how to keep ahead of the IT game and put in place measures to future-proof your business. Nothing stands still in IT and, as technology develops, so does the need to stay up-to-date.

The switch off of the UK’s landline phone network by 2025 will bring major changes for businesses which are reliant on the traditional analogue system.

The process of moving to an all-digital network has already begun in some parts of the country and making the switch now could save you time and expense in the long-term.
