SoGEA (or Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) is a new Openreach technology which enables businesses to order fibre broadband without a phone line.

Many businesses only have a fixed analogue line because it is necessary for their fibre broadband to work. This incurs two charges, one for the broadband service and another for the line rental.

This is where SoGEA comes in. Businesses can purchase a broadband connection from Integrity IT, without the need for a separate line rental. The line which is provided as part of our SoGEA package will only provide an internet connection, you’re not able to make or receive phone calls on it.

In our experience, this is not usually an issue, since most businesses will have a separate telephone system. This can provide a saving of up to 30% compared to a traditional broadband and line rental package.

Openreach also claim that the installation time is 50% quicker and faults can now be resolved much quicker since the customer only needs to provide one support call to their internet provider. Since some users, use one provider for their phone line and another for their broadband, SoGEA negates the need for more than one call.

Since there is no traditional phone line frequencies being used, there is also less chance of interference which can cause unstable connections.

SoGEA is not available everywhere but it is available to over 28 million premises across the UK and is becoming more and more common since the large scale rollout started in the final quarter of 2020.
